The Art of Australian Printmaker Helen Clarke

Biography

Born Western Australia

I have been a practising artist for more than thirty years, predominantly working in the field of printmaking.
In early 2012 I had specific works exhibited in Safe Keeping which was curated by the National Trust. Approximately 30 artists each sourced an old Coolgardie Safe and created artworks around that safe. These works along with the safes were exhibited at the Town Hall in Perth, WA.
Still Life/Our Life was a 5 year long exhibition organised from Kalbarri, WA, to commemorate 400 years since the first known visit to Australian shores by Europeans. In 2012 my work in the first exhibition for this project was a hand coloured etching/aquatint entitled ‘Collection’.

In 2013 I was one of ten printmakers around Australia commissioned to create a fine art print edition for the Print Council of Australia.
In 2014 and 2016 I completed Public Art Commissions for the new Wandina Primary School in Geraldton WA. In April 2014 I travelled to Finland where I was an Artist in Residence for a month. While there I held a solo exhibition of my work and held a relief printing workshop.

I have participated in many school, community, art exchange and group exhibitions over the past 25 years, some years taking part in as many as nine local and interstate exhibitions.
Currently, I work from my home studio running occasional community printmaking workshops.
